In India, Ghee is not just a food item but is considered an important part of health, taste and tradition. Ghee is used everywhere from home kitchen to worship. But nowadays the business of fake and adulterated ghee is increasing rapidly in the market, which is not only affecting people’s pockets but can also prove to be dangerous for health. Many times people buy fake ghee thinking it is real, due to which the body does not get the necessary nutrition and health related problems can also increase.
Many nutrients are present in real ghee
Milk and ghee businessman Navneet Aggarwal says that many essential nutrients like Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, D, E and K2 are found in real ghee. The butyric acid present in it strengthens the digestive system, reduces acidity and gives energy to the body. But fake ghee does not have these properties because vegetable oil or chemicals are added to it.
This is how to identify real and fake ghee:
1. Identify by smell
The biggest identity of real ghee is its natural fragrance. When real ghee is heated, its aroma spreads throughout the room. At the same time, when fake ghee is heated, there is a strange or mild chemical smell. If the smell of ghee seems natural and like milk, then understand that the ghee is real.
2. Palm test will reveal the truth
Put some ghee on your palm and mash it. Real ghee will melt immediately due to body temperature and will smell fragrant. Whereas fake ghee melts late or feels sticky on hands.
3. Color and texture also tell the truth
The color of real ghee is light yellow or golden. If the ghee looks too white or strangely granular, it may be adulterated. The texture of pure ghee is soft and uniform.
4. It is necessary to melt immediately when heated
When real ghee is heated, it melts immediately and becomes clearly visible. Whereas fake ghee may contain grains or layers, which do not melt easily.
5. Identification can also be done through fridge test
Keep the ghee in the refrigerator for some time. Real ghee solidifies uniformly, whereas fake ghee may solidify in different layers. This is a sign of adulteration.
Ghee should be bought from dairy only
According to food safety experts, one should always buy ghee from a trusted brand or a trusted dairy. Also, check the license number of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on the packet. If the price of ghee is very low, then be alert. Because the price of real ghee is always a little higher. Experts say that only with proper identification and caution, you can avoid fake ghee and keep the health of your family safe.
