Do you also start the day by eating bread in the early morning? Even though it is an easy and quick breakfast to prepare, eating bread on an empty stomach can be detrimental to your health. This habit can gradually lead to increase in blood sugar, weight gain and digestive problems. Therefore, it is important that you know what effect eating bread in the morning has on the body and what things should be kept in mind.

In today’s busy life, bread has become the easiest and quickest option for breakfast. Be it a rush to office in the morning or preparing children’s tiffin, bread is used in almost every house. Many people consider it light and low fat and eat it daily. But according to health experts and traditional medical practices, eating only bread on an empty stomach is not considered a good option for the body. Especially if it becomes a regular habit, it can gradually become the cause of many health problems.
The first effect of eating bread on an empty stomach is on blood sugar. Most bread, especially white bread, is made from refined flour which is high in simple carbohydrates. These carbohydrates are rapidly digested and converted into glucose, which can cause a sudden increase in blood sugar levels. For people who have diabetes or are at risk of it, this situation can become even more serious. Frequent fluctuations in sugar levels affect the body’s energy system and can also increase the problem of insulin resistance in the long run.
Even from a nutritional point of view, bread is not a very balanced diet, especially when eaten alone. The amount of fiber, vitamins and essential minerals in white bread is very low. Due to lack of fiber, digestion process can slow down, which can cause problems like constipation and gas. Regularly consuming low fiber food affects the body’s metabolism and increases the chances of weight gain. Additionally, excessive consumption of products made from refined flour can increase bad cholesterol, which is harmful for heart health.
Eating bread on an empty stomach can also disturb the energy balance. Immediately after eating bread, one gets energy for a short while, but it is not sustainable. Within some time, hunger starts again, due to which the person starts consuming more calories. This habit can gradually lead to weight gain. Morning breakfast should be such that it keeps you satisfied for a long time and provides stable energy to the body. This balance is not achieved by eating only bread and one may feel lethargic or tired throughout the day.
