Some people have the habit of brushing their teeth with a toothbrush for 5 minutes in the morning. Some people use mouthwash too often. Now a shocking thing has come to light regarding this. A famous doctor has warned that doing so can lead to high blood pressure and diabetes.

Excessive mouthwash can cause BP disease.
Brushing teeth after waking up in the morning is everyone’s habit. This is basic hygiene. But there are some people who keep rubbing the brush on their teeth for 10-10 minutes. Not only this, apart from brushing, he always cleans his mouth with mouthwash. Nowadays, people often follow this hygiene on social media that we should brush twice a day. But wait, if you also have this habit then it can give you the gift of high blood pressure and diabetes.
Doctors warned
In fact, San Francisco dental expert Dr. Mark Burhen has warned about this on social media. He says that in countries like America, more than half of the people are unaware that cleaning the mouth too much kills the good bacteria. Citing research, he said that in fact, when we use too much mouthwash, many types of bacteria that are beneficial to us die in our mouth. These bacteria also contain those bacteria which convert nitrate into nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide helps to relax or widen the blood vessels. Therefore, people who are always suffering from mouthwash disease have many times more risk of high blood pressure and diabetes. He said that nowadays indiscriminate use of antibacterial mouthwash also destroys the good bacteria in the mouth which help in producing nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is very important for controlling high blood pressure and insulin sensitivity. Experts recommend that instead of completely sterilizing the mouth, focus on brushing and flossing and use mouthwash only on the advice of a doctor.
Shocking thing in research also
Dr. Mark Burhen has told that in trying to achieve 99.9 percent clean mouth, people are unknowingly spoiling their heart and metabolic health. He said it also kills nitrate-reducing bacteria, which the body uses to make nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is necessary for the heart to function properly. Dr. Burhen cited several studies that suggest there may be a possible link between frequent mouthwash use and overall body health. He said that in a study related to Harvard, about 1,000 adults were followed for 3 years. It was found that people who used mouthwash twice a day had 55 percent higher risk of prediabetes or diabetes. Another study found that those who used it twice a day had more than double the risk of high blood pressure. A study by the University of Plymouth found that mouthwash eliminated more than 60 percent of the blood pressure benefits of exercise and the effect was almost completely gone within 2 hours.
Cleaning is necessary but according to
Speaking to The Indian Express, Dr. Niyati Arora, Prosthodontist, Crown Hub Dental, said that just as there are good and bad bacteria in our intestines, similarly both types of bacteria are present in the mouth. Some research suggests that using mouthwashes that are too strong may reduce the good bacteria that convert nitrates from food into nitric oxide. Nitric oxide plays an important role in controlling blood pressure. However, what its clinical effect will be in the long run is not completely clear yet. He also said that large-scale population-based studies are not yet available to prove this claim.
Therefore, it is not advisable to use strong mouthwash excessively for a long time without doctor’s advice and proper guidance. Dr. Arora says that this does not at all mean that the use of mouthwash is dangerous for health. If used properly, mouthwash helps in maintaining oral hygiene. It is just important to pay attention to the quantity of its use. Dr. Niyati Arora said that mouthwash containing chlorhexidine should be used only on the advice of a doctor. This should be done for a specific dental problem and for a limited period of time only. Simple fluoride mouthwash or betadine mouthwash are considered medically safe for everyday cleaning and do not harm the good bacteria. It can be used once or twice a day as per need. But regular brushing and flossing should be the most important habit of oral hygiene.
