Audie Murphy Life Story: The kind of bravery that heroes show in films is rarely seen in real life. But, here American actor Audie Murphy is an exception, whose stories of courage are famous even today. Actually, he was a brave soldier of the American Army, who had defeated the enemies in the battlefield. He worked in 44 films while serving in the US Army.

New Delhi: Audie Murphy was a soldier before becoming an actor. When he was a Major in the American Army, he worked as a hero in 44 films. He was awarded 33 medals for his bravery. You can gauge his bravery from the fact that during the Second World War, he single-handedly killed 50 German soldiers within an hour.

Audie Murphy was very well-mannered, due to which he also got the title of being the most decorated soldier of the US Army. The 33 medals adorned on his military uniform spoke of his courage. He was suffering from depression during the last period of his life. He had dreams of terrible wars, due to which he used to sleep with a loaded gun under his pillow. A few years after Audie Murphy’s birth, his father left the family and went somewhere. Due to financial constraints, he studied only till 5th standard and started selling cotton. During this time, he also learned to use a rifle. After the passing of his mother, his responsibilities and troubles increased considerably. He worked in a grocery shop and radio, but his dream was to become a soldier. When Germany attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Audie Murphy tried to join the US Army, but due to his short stature, low weight and age, he was not selected. He was only 5.5 feet tall. According to media reports, Life magazine named him the Most Decorated Soldier on 16 July 1954. Producer and actor James Cagney saw a hero in Audie Murphy. He offered Audi to work in films, however, he was not given the job due to his unusual behavior, although Murphy later started getting small roles. He became popular with the film ‘The Red Badge of Courage’ released in 1951. He then worked in the film ‘To Hell and Back’ based on his life. He remained equally active in films and army. Just four days after his divorce from Dixie Wanda Hendrix, Audie Murphy married Pamela Opel, a former air hostess, with whom he had two sons. He had a bad addiction.
