The mortality rate in elective surgery was only 0.3% whereas in emergency surgery the mortality rate was 7.89%. For which diseases most surgeries were done?
According to this report available by AIIMS, most of the surgeries were related to liver and pancreas diseases. Of the total surgeries, 32.5% were performed on liver, pancreas and bile duct. The percentage of hernia was 13.9%, kidney transplant and related surgeries were 11%, breast surgery was 9.9%, and colorectal cancer surgery was 7.9%.

The new surgery block of AIIMS started in the year 2021. At that time there were 5 operation theaters, but now it has increased to 8. These operation theaters are fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Of these, 7 theaters are reserved for planned surgeries and 1 theater is reserved for emergency and life-saving operations. In this, surgery is done with modern technology. According to the data, in 2025, 50.7% open surgeries, 41.2% laparoscopic surgeries and 8.1% robotic surgeries were performed.
