Jammu and Kashmir made history in Ranji Trophy by relying on Akib Nabi’s devastating bowling. They beat former champions Madhya Pradesh by 56 runs to reach the semi-finals. Chasing a target of 291 runs on the fourth day, Madhya Pradesh were bowled out for just 234 runs. It was their own batting that sank them. With this win, Jammu and Kashmir advanced to the last four and looked forward to a quarter-final win over Andhra Pradesh vs Bengal.

Undoubtedly the hero of this match is the 29-year-old pacer Aqib Nabi. After taking 7 wickets in the first innings, he also showed power in the second innings. He finished the match with 5/70 with a total of 12 wickets, costing just 110 runs. His career-best performance effectively dismantled Madhya Pradesh’s batting lineup and ensured victory for Jammu and Kashmir.

At the end of the day on Saturday, Madhya Pradesh’s score was 84 for 5. At that time Akib created pressure. On the final day of the match, he first dismissed Rambir Gurjar, then stopped Saransh Jain’s 64 off 81 balls. India’s Venkatesh Iyer was also dismissed earlier in the day, leaving Madhya Pradesh unable to return to the match.

Along with Akib, left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq played an important role with the ball. He took 3 wickets for 49 runs and increased the pressure on the opposition. On the strength of great team performance, Jammu and Kashmir made a new history by reaching the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy.
