Calcutta : Bangladesh has become quite angry with the recent events of being excluded from the World Cup. After Bangladesh’s exit from the U-19 World Cup, a new debate has started.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now accused the International Cricket Council (ICC) of unfair scheduling. The BCB and ICC have been at loggerheads ever since they refused to send the national team to the T20 World Cup to be held in India.

Bangladesh has been dropped from the upcoming tournament and Scotland has been included in its place. This time BCB game development coordinator Habibul Bashar has criticized the ICC for the U-19 World Cup match schedule.

First, the Bangladesh team was supposed to play two warm-up matches in Masvingo. After that they are scheduled to travel to Harar for the main draw. But Bashar said the ICC later changed the schedule. This resulted in the team having to play practice matches at two different venues, which were about four hours apart.

He further said, “BCB arranged domestic flights at its own expense so that the boys would not be too tired before the match against India. As the bus journey was too long and direct flights were not easily available.”

According to reports, Bangladesh head coach Naveed Nawaz and several players expressed their displeasure with the hectic and tiring schedule. Before the first group match, they had to travel by bus from Harare to Bulawayo for about 9 hours, again during the rainy season.

Considering the importance of the matches, BCB arranges domestic flights for the matches against India and New Zealand and bears the entire cost itself. But the travel problems did not end there. They had to return to Bulawayo by bus again for the match on 23 January and then travel again by road for the Super Six match against England on 26 January.

Bashar said, “The schedule was very unfair for us. As per the initial schedule, we were supposed to play two warm-up matches in Masvingo followed by a four-hour tour to play the first two group matches in Bulawayo. But then the ICC suddenly changed the schedule. This has forced us to play practice matches in different places and travel back and forth.”
