The Pakistan government on Sunday officially announced its decision to boycott the ICC T20 World Cup group league match against India. However, the national team has been allowed to participate in the remaining matches of the tournament starting from February 7.

The Pakistan government’s decision is being linked to protests over inclusion of Scotland instead of Bangladesh in the World Cup. Bangladesh demanded to shift their match from India to Sri Lanka citing security reasons. But the ICC rejected that plea.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said, “BCCI has not received any information regarding match boycott from Pakistan. We are waiting for an official statement.”

The government of Pakistan, in a statement issued on its social media account, said it has allowed the Pakistan cricket team to participate in the tournament, but will not field the team against India on February 15 in Colombo.

With this decision, all speculations about Pakistan’s participation in the tournament ended. The decision comes in the midst of the tournament being jointly organized by India and Sri Lanka, which is considered important in the context of political tensions.

“Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan approves the participation of the Pakistan Cricket Team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, but the Pakistan Cricket Team will not play the scheduled match against India on February 15, 2026,” the government of Pakistan said on social media.
