Learn about the struggle and success story of this indomitable talent of Bengal at the national level in this report.
Ritvik Bhattacharya, Siliguri: Aniket Chakraborty, an 18-year-old young runner from Suryasen Palli, Shiv Mandir area of Siliguri, is today the pride of the entire North Bengal. He proved his talent by winning the gold medal in the 100m race in the U-19 category at the National Athletics Championship held in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Finishing the race in just 11.02 seconds, Aniket showed that if there is an opportunity and indomitable persistence, success is bound to happen.
Although Aniket’s success seems overnight to many, there is a long story of struggle behind it. Leaving parents and brother in Siliguri, Aniket currently lives alone in Behala, Kolkata for higher studies. Apart from preparing for studies in sports management, he is also preparing for the railway examination with the aim of giving the central exam in the future.
Aniket studied in Bagdogra Kendriya Vidyalaya (Air Force) in the beginning of his education. Later continued his studies in hostel at Sister Nivedita School in Malda. Among the family members, father Bappa Chakraborty is associated with a private firm, mother Prema Modak is a school teacher and brother Arghya Chakraborty is a class IX student. They all live in their own house in Siliguri.
A few years ago, Aniket had to face defeat while participating in this game. At that time, he had to bear all the bad words, disappointment. But did not stop. Last September, he was re-elected in Bhubaneswar after proving himself among nearly two thousand contestants. The news of the final election comes in January. Then Aniket won the first place in the 100m competition held in Uttar Pradesh on 25th January after reaching the final by playing two heats out of 42 contestants.
Most notably, Aniket never took professional training. He loved to play cricket while staying in the hostel. It was there that he learned a little running technique from the hostel coach. That little learning and indomitable will has brought him to the national stage today. Currently, he is dreaming to go further in the field of sports by studying sports management.
Aniket said about his success, he is very happy and proud of this victory. In his words, “This medal is not only for me, but for my family, coaches and all the people of Siliguri. I wish to do better in the future.” Aniket’s achievement today is not just a medal – it is an inspirational story that will give courage to many young people to dream.
