Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and former Director of Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), Prof. Mahesh Verma While making people aware on the occasion of World Prosthodontist Day, he warned that people need to understand that neglecting teeth can spoil the overall health. He said that due to dental problems, people are unable to eat hard food and gradually become dependent on soft and flour-rich foods. This leads to fiber deficiency in the body. Cholesterol increases in the body and the risk of digestive diseases including diabetes increases.
Pro. Verma has appealed to the people to give priority to the health of teeth and mouth. He said that falling of even one tooth can seriously affect a person’s ability to eat, nutrition and quality of life. There are many people in whose mouth one or two teeth fall out, but they do not take it seriously and keep ignoring it.
He told that due to lack of one tooth, the balance of the mouth gets disturbed and people start chewing food from only one side. Just as a problem in one toe makes it difficult to walk, similarly the lack of a tooth affects the functionality of the entire mouth.
He said that prosthodontists are specialized dental specialists who are trained in the restoration of teeth, jaws and smiles. People who have misconceptions that dental implants are not successful or can cause complications, need to understand that dental implants are a safe, simple procedure and an affordable option for common people. Getting fallen teeth replaced is not a hobby or fashion but it is necessary for a healthy and respectable life. Good teeth are the foundation of good nutrition and a better life.
