According to recently released government data, A huge increase has been recorded in the number of deaths due to heart diseases in Delhi. In the year 2024, 34,539 people died due to heart diseases, which shows an increase of more than 170% compared to the last decade. This situation is indicating us to be more serious about our lifestyle and health.
Talking about the figures, the results are shocking. According to the Delhi Government’s ‘Medical Certification of Causes of Deaths 2024’ report, a total of 34,539 people died in Delhi in the year 2024 due to heart diseases. If we look back a decade, in 2015 the number was just 12,680, an increase of more than 170% in 10 years! Not only this, within just one year (2023 to 2024) a jump of 54% has been seen in these deaths. In 2023, this figure was 22,385, which has now increased to beyond 34 thousand.

Deaths occurring outside hospitals are also now being correctly counted under the category of ‘cardiac arrest’, due to which the figures are showing an increase.
Dr. Tarun Kumar has said a very important thing that Since the Corona epidemic, cases of heart diseases among the youth have increased significantly. According to him, accumulation of cholesterol in the veins and sudden formation of blood clots is becoming the biggest reason for heart attack. Often the condition worsens so quickly that there is not even time to take the patient to the hospital, which is why the number of deaths outside the hospital is continuously increasing.

- In 2015 this number was 12,680.
- In 2020, it fell to 16,189 due to ambiguity in reporting during the pandemic.
- In 2021, there was a huge jump of 83% and the number of deaths reached 29,546.
