Nowadays people are spreading propaganda against allopathy on social media. People should be cautious of them.
Most of the allopathic medicines do not carry the risk of addiction.Truth About Allopathic Drugs: Most of the people, when they feel ill, buy and consume allopathic medicines available over the counter. Sometimes this provides relief, while some people have to go to the doctor. In case of minor problems like headache, fever, cold, cough or gas, people resort to English medicines without thinking. However, there is a fear in the minds of many people that by taking these medicines, the body will become addicted to them. Many people believe that once they start allopathic medicine, they have to depend on it for the rest of their life. How much truth is there in this?
Dr. Lokendra Gupta, head of the emergency department of Medanta Hospital, Lucknow, UP, told News18. Allopathy medicines are evidence based and after many trials they get approval for use. Most of the English medicines do not make the body dependent. It is important for people to understand the difference between dependence and treatment. Taking normal painkillers, antibiotics or fever medicines in the correct dosage does not cause addiction. These medicines are meant to control the disease or cure the symptoms. These do not cause any kind of addiction to the body. Many influencers are propagating allopathic medicines on social media. People should not believe these things and should avoid misunderstanding.
Doctor Gupta told that some allopathic medicines are such that the body can get addicted to them. This includes sleeping pills, anti-anxiety drugs, opioids and steroids. However, taking these medicines for a long time or without medical supervision can cause addiction to the body. However, there is no risk of addiction or dependency due to diabetes, BP, fever, infection or taking other medicines. Diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid or asthma require taking medicines for a long time, which people often misunderstand as dependency. This is not a dependency, but a need of the disease. If you do not take medicine, the disease will start getting uncontrolled. This is not dependency, but treatment.
According to experts, people are at risk from medicines when they start medicines on their own or stop them prematurely. Incomplete course of antibiotics, frequent use of painkillers or taking sleeping pills without advice can harm the body. Due to this, the effect of the medicine starts reducing and in future the same medicine does not work, which people wrongly consider as dependency. Experts advise not to take any medicine without doctor’s advice and take it in the right dose and for the right time. If there is a possibility of side effects or habit forming from any medicine, then the doctor himself substitutes it or reduces its dosage. English medicines taken correctly save life, not weaken the body.
