According to Ayurveda, a special type of food has been described in each month, by adopting which we can remain healthy. On the same subject, Chhattisgarh’s renowned Ayurveda physician Nadi Vaidya Dr. Nagendra Narayan Sharma told Local 18 that in the Indian tradition, there has been a tradition of Ritucharya i.e. eating and living according to the seasons. We have inherited this culture. Currently, the month of Chaitra has started from Wednesday, March 4, 2026, which will continue till April 2, 2026. During this period, we should pay special attention to our diet. There is a change in the weather in the month of Chaitra. Spring season is at its peak. Chaitra month marks the end of spring and beginning of summer. During this time the temperature starts increasing gradually, due to which heat starts being felt. The atmosphere starts becoming hot and dry.

He said that due to seasonal change in the month of Chaitra, the possibility of cold, cough and fever also increases and due to weak digestive power, the possibility of diseases like indigestion, vomiting and dehydration also increases. In this month we should especially avoid oily, spicy, heavy food, hotel food etc. The possibility of dehydration increases due to increasing heat, hence appropriate amount of water should be consumed. Besides, due to dryness in the environment in the month of Chaitra, the problem of dryness in eyes also increases, to prevent this, eyes should be washed from time to time and rose water should be poured into the eyes after consulting a doctor.

Avoid stale food
He further said that in the month of Chaitra, one should eat light, fresh and easily digestible food. Stale food should be avoided. Jaggery should not be consumed in this month. Consuming it can cause health problems. Consuming gram in the month of Chaitra is beneficial from health point of view.

What should be eaten in Chaitra month?
Cereal- Gram, barley, jowar kheer, rice, maize kheer and peeled moong dal.

Fruit- Guava, pomegranate, orange, apple, grapes and coconut.

Vegetable- Drumstick pods, green coriander, ginger, mint, bitter gourd, cucumber and bottle gourd.

spices- Black pepper, dry coriander, sweet neem, celery, cumin, fenugreek and fennel.

What should not be eaten?
In the month of Chaitra, jaggery, new wheat, millet, maize, urad dal, kulthi dal, kidney beans, carrots, radish, peas, cauliflower, cabbage, brinjal, fenugreek, mustard greens, arbi, mango, mango juice, papaya, banana and heavy slow digesting food and stale food with excess oil and chillies and spices should be consumed to a minimum.
