Violence Against Doctors: A large number of doctors in the country are becoming victims of physical and mental abuse. Of these, 48% cases are not even reported. BJP MP Laxmikant Vajpayee has expressed deep concern in the Rajya Sabha over the increasing violence against doctors. He told that this situation is serious in states like Delhi, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

Cases of violence against doctors are increasing across the country.
Violence Against Doctors: In the country, doctors are considered to be the form of God, but when a patient dies, the angry family members start beating the doctors and vandalizing the hospital. Every year many such cases come to light, where doctors are attacked by angry attendants. According to a recent national study, about 7.9 percent of doctors have faced some form of violence or abuse in the last year, while about 3.9 percent of the cases also involved physical assault. In these attacks, attempts were made to hurt doctors. His hospital or clinic was also vandalized. Not only this, the medical equipment present in the hospital was also damaged.
The most worrying thing is that about 48 percent of such incidents are not reported because doctors are losing faith in the administrative system. BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Laxmikant Vajpayee gave this information in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. He said that in states like West Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, incidents of assault, vandalism and harm to doctors by the relatives of patients have come to light. This problem is no longer limited only to metros, but has also spread to nursing homes in small cities and towns. Many times, due to dissatisfaction of the patient’s family, the safety of the doctors gets endangered, due to which the treatment system is also affected.
The BJP MP said that if we look at the data of government hospitals in Delhi, 149 such incidents have come to light between 2021 and 2025. This number has been worrying. 49 such cases have been registered in 2024 and 48 in 2025. In the last few years, tension between doctors and patients has increased due to mistrust and incidents of violence are continuously coming to light in hospitals. Such incidents weaken the trust between doctor and patient and make the entire healthcare environment unsafe. The Rajya Sabha MP called it a very serious and sensitive subject and said that the interests of doctors, health workers and patients i.e. everyone should be protected.
Appealing to the government, he said that an appeal committee should be constituted at the state level under the chairmanship of a retired High Court judge. Doctor-Patient Safety Coordination Committee should be formed at the district level under the chairmanship of the District Judge. Time bound disposal of all the cases coming here should be ensured. It is necessary to do this so that doctors can discharge their duties fearlessly and patients and their families can also get timely justice.
