US-Denmark News: US President Donald Trump is in no mood to bow down on the issue of Greenland. On one hand, Europe has stood against him, while on the other hand, he has made both his language and attitude more aggressive regarding Greenland. When Denmark said that it was not afraid of blackmailing by America, Donald Trump started showing the threat of Russia.

In his social media post, Trump directly accused Denmark of failing to deal with the growing Russian security threat to Greenland over the past several decades. Trump has shown a very strong attitude and said that now the time has come to end the Russian threat in Greenland. They already keep showing fear of threat from China and Russia in the Arctic on this issue. Once again he repeated the same thing, when Europe is not ready to support his stance.

‘This has been going on for 20 years, now the time has come’

Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social – ‘For the last 20 years, NATO has been telling Denmark that the Russian threat from Greenland has to be removed. Unfortunately Denmark could not do anything. The time has come, and it will be done!!!’

Trump’s statement has come at a time when tension is increasing rapidly between America and many of its European allies. The reason for this is Trump’s announcement in which he has threatened to impose heavy tariffs on European countries in return for opposing American control over Greenland. In return, the European Union is also preparing to impose retaliatory tariffs on America.

Trump explodes tariff bomb on his own friends

Donald Trump had announced a day earlier that from February, a 10 percent tariff would be imposed on goods coming from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, Netherlands and Finland. He warned that if no agreement is reached by June 1, this tariff will be increased to 25 percent. Not only this, he has also made it clear that this will continue until America gets permission for the complete and final purchase of Greenland. They are pressurizing European countries through tariffs to get ownership of Greenland.

NATO alliance is on the verge of collapse

This step of America is likely to have a serious impact on trans-Atlantic relations. There are signs of deepening tension within NATO also. In this military alliance, which has been the backbone of the collective security of Europe and North America since 1949, Trump has earlier also accused the allied countries of reducing defense spending. Denmark has expressed surprise at Trump’s tariff threat. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said the announcement was unexpected for him, especially since Denmark-US talks were going on in Washington recently.

Why is Trump after Greenland?

Donald Trump has been saying since his last term that America should have ownership rights on this island rich in mineral resources. Greenland, with a population of about 57 thousand, is located on important maritime and strategic routes of the Arctic. It is a semi-autonomous area under Denmark, whose defense is the responsibility of Denmark. However, the US already has access to Greenland under a 1951 defense treaty and maintains a military presence there through the Pitufik Space Base, which plays a key role in missile warning, missile defense and space surveillance. Now he needs complete control over it. Due to this, the relations between America and Europe seem to be reaching a new and dangerous turn.
