The land of America trembled at midnight on Thursday due to a terrible earthquake. According to the data of the German Research Center for Geosciences, this earthquake occurred on Thursday night near the coast of Oregon in the United States. The intensity of this earthquake was 6.2 on the Richter scale. It is a matter of relief that till now there is no news of any damage.
According to the German Research Center for Geosciences, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 mi). Although there are no immediate reports of damage or loss of life or property, officials are closely monitoring the situation. The earthquake was so strong that Americans trembled. People were seen running out of their homes.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s National Tsunami Warning Center did not issue any tsunami warnings. The offshore area near the Oregon-California border is part of a seismically active area where earthquakes occur regularly due to the interaction of tectonic plates with the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
Most earthquakes in the region occur in the ocean and are often not felt on land, although larger earthquakes can be felt widely along the Pacific Northwest coast. At present, detailed information is awaited.
One user wrote, ‘A 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred off the Oregon coast, but no tsunami threat.’ Another post said it happened on the Blanco Fracture Zone, which is separate from Cascadia. Many users shared information from the USGS website, where there were no damage reports. This region near the border of Oregon and California is seismically active, where plates constantly collide. Experts say such offshore earthquakes are common and mostly have little impact on land, however, there is an 84% chance of aftershocks of magnitude greater than 3.0 in the next week. Officials have appealed to the people to remain alert.
