Tamluk, Saikat Shi: The competitors of Uttar Pradesh gave a surprise in the half marathon race in Tamluk. Four contestants from Uttar Pradesh are in the top ten. Apart from this, contestants from Jharkhand Bihar and Odisha also outshone other contestants. The highest level of running is the marathon. The history of marathon running is very old. A marathon of 42 km is called a full marathon. And 21 km run is called half marathon run. A half marathon race is organized in Tamluk. Competitors from different parts of the district and state as well as from other states participate in this half marathon race.
A 21 km mini marathon competition was organized by Youth Spotting Club of Tamluk in East Medinipur district, starting from Mecheda KTPP junction. Tamluk city tour ends at Shankarara bus pool adjacent to Tamluk Youth Sporting Club in Tamluk. More than 200 competitors participate in the half marathon race. In 2026, the club organized this half marathon race in 31 years. Enthusiastic spectators throng the roadside to witness this mini marathon, along with all the roadside clubs lending a hand of support.
The organizers of the half marathon race said that the marathon race of the day started in accordance with all the rules of the international marathon race. Every year there is a different frenzy between the people of Tamluk city as well as the district about this race. This time it was no different. Participants from various districts of West Bengal as well as various states including Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand Bihar and Odisha participated in the half marathon race.’ Competitors from different states were surprised in this half marathon race in Tamluk city. Especially the contestants from Uttar Pradesh.
Arif Ali of Uttar Pradesh became the first in the 21 km marathon race with a time of 1 hour 1 minute 27 seconds. Anupam Mahato of Paschim Medinipur came second with a time of 1 hour 1 minute 33 seconds. Uttar Pradesh’s Ganesh Kumar finished third with a time of 1 hour 2 minutes 30 seconds.
The first prize in the half marathon competition was Rs 40,000 and a trophy. Second and third prizes are 30,000 and 20,000 taka respectively and a trophy. Cash prizes are awarded up to 10th place in this half marathon race. Apart from this, first third and third prizes are awarded among women. Uttar Pradesh contestants won this year’s half marathon in Tamluk. Besides the first place, there are four contestants from 1 to 10.
