Hair Damage In Holi: There is a risk of hair damage due to Holi colors. Especially if you are not using herbal or non-toxic colors, your hair may look lifeless and dry. Why does this happen and what measures should be taken to prevent it? Here you can know from Dr. Nidhi Rohatgi, Dermatologist at Max Hospital.

How To Wash Off Holi Color From Hair: Holi, the festival of colors, is going to be celebrated on 4th March. From children to the elderly, people remain intoxicated with the colors of this festival. On this day people just play with colors, dance and sing with their loved ones without any worries. But the problem starts when these colors are removed from the skin and hair. Many people who play Holi later suffer from irritation or discomfort in their skin and scalp.
Dr Nidhi Rohatgi Principal Consultant Dermatology at Max Multi Specialty Hospital, Panchsheel Park In a conversation, he told us that lead, synthetic dyes and artificial pigments are found in most of the Holi colours. These harsh chemicals can damage the outer layer of the hair. Due to this, after Holi, hair can become dry, lifeless, tangled, rough and easily broken.
Hidden danger in Holi colors (How Color Damage hair)
Doctors say that these chemical colors not only damage the hair superficially, but also harm the scalp. This can cause itching, redness, burning, swelling and in some cases even scalp infection. If the color remains on the head for a long time, problems may increase. However, there is a possibility of scalp burn but such cases are rare. In over 25 years of clinical experience, I have not seen any case of scalp burn directly caused by Holi colours.
Caution is necessary while washing colors (Right Way To Wash Hair)
The doctor said that the interesting thing is that sometimes the real damage is not caused by the colors, but by the way they are removed. To remove color, people often rub too hard, use strong shampoo or wash hair repeatedly. Such rubbing and frequent washing removes the natural moisture of the scalp, which can further increase dryness, irritation and inflammation. In such a situation, avoid rubbing too hard while cleaning the paint.
