Many people, after bringing vegetables from the market, keep them in plastic bags or polythene directly in the refrigerator. Do you do this too? If yes, then you are making a big mistake. Manage to cause harm to your health unknowingly. It is okay to keep vegetables in the fridge, but it is not right to keep them in plastic bags. If you keep vegetables in the refrigerator directly in the same plastic bag after bringing them from the market, then change this habit immediately. Doing this can have a bad effect on your health.

Air does not pass through plastic bags. Vegetables need air to breathe. If they do not get air, the moisture coming out of them remains inside the bag. This moisture allows bacteria and fungus to grow quickly. Due to this the vegetables spoil quickly.

Chemical hazards: Hazardous chemicals like bisphenol-A (BPA) and phthalates are used in making plastic. These chemicals can get mixed with vegetables if poor quality plastic bags are kept in the fridge. Eating such contaminated food can cause hormonal disturbances and digestive problems.

Lack of taste and nutrients: Vegetables kept in plastic bags lose their original taste. They lose freshness and become light in colour. Especially green vegetables lose their vitamins when pressed. In such a situation, even if you eat them, there will be no benefit.

The vegetables should be taken out from the plastic bag and dried in air for some time. It is better to use cloth or net bags for storage. If the vegetables have become rotten or fungus is visible on them, then do not eat them at all.
