Mumbai Colombo round trip Flight – The dramatic rise in prices comes after the Pakistan government reversed its earlier decision to boycott the high-profile fixture.
KOLKATA: Cricket fans rushing to secure flights for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match in Colombo are facing a steep price hike, with ticket fares from Mumbai to Colombo increasing by Rs 10,000 within minutes of the match being confirmed. According to a report in The Indian Express, the cost of a Mumbai-Colombo-Mumbai round trip is now around Rs 60,000 as tensions have reached a fever pitch ahead of the much-awaited clash on February 15.
The dramatic rise in prices comes after the Pakistani government reversed an earlier decision to boycott the high-profile fixture. After back-channel talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Sri Lanka Cricket and the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan agreed to field India, ending uncertainty over the most lucrative match of the tournament.
Pakistan’s U-turn on India’s match boycott
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed the decision via official social media accounts, citing “requests from friendly countries” – such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates – and the outcome of multilateral talks. The tweet read, “In view of the outcome of multilateral discussions and the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan hereby directs the Pakistan National Cricket Team to field for their scheduled matches in the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup on February 15, 2026.”
The announcement followed a flurry of travel and accommodation bookings, with fans scrambling to secure seats for the historic India-Pakistan clash, billed as one of the highlights of the T20 World Cup.
The India-Pakistan rivalry, known for its huge fan following and high stakes, is expected to attract millions of spectators to Sri Lanka, driving up prices and creating a frenzied atmosphere among cricket lovers.
