New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell has written his name in golden letters in cricket history with a unique feat against India. On Sunday, 18 January, he became the first batsman in the world to score five consecutive innings of 50 or more in ODI cricket against India on Indian soil. His consistency in international cricket has been proven once again with this outstanding performance.

The 34-year-old right-handed batsman from Hamilton is currently ranked second in the ICC ODI batsmen rankings. Mitchell came to bat at number four for New Zealand in the third match of the ongoing three-match ODI series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. He brought stability to the team by batting responsibly even under pressure.

Mitchell completed his half-century by hitting a four off the last ball of the 21st over of Kuldeep Yadav’s New Zealand innings. It took him just 56 balls to score 50 runs in this innings. His batting had patience, control and an aggressive mindset as needed, which was particularly eye-catching against India’s powerful bowling attack.

Mitchell now tops the list of consecutive 50+ run innings among New Zealand batsmen in ODIs against India. Earlier, Kane Williamson played five consecutive 50+ innings in 2014, but that was outside India. Mitchell’s feat will be a source of pride for New Zealand cricket and a great inspiration for the future.
