Discussions are raging in Indian cricket recently around a controversial comment. Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has criticized India’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Duskhat’s comments. Tiwary considers Ten Dushkhat’s statement about Rohit Sharma disrespectful. According to him, compared to what Rohit has achieved in international cricket, the success of ten doubles is very little.

Explaining Rohit Sharma’s somewhat slow batting in the second ODI against New Zealand, India’s assistant coach said the pitch at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium was not suitable for Rohit’s ‘touch’ batting. He also said that Rohit had not played enough cricket before the series. This comment created anger among a section of Rohit fans, as many saw it as a sarcasm on Rohit’s retirement from Tests and T20Is.

In an interview to PTI, Manoj Tiwari said, “With all due respect, I want to say to Ryan ten Dushkhat, he was with me for four years at KKR. No doubt he is a very good person, but the kind of comments he made, I think he should have thought more. He played international cricket for the Netherlands. If you look at his performance in international cricket, with all due respect, Rohit is 5th of what he has achieved in his career. Not even a percentage—not just as a batsman, but as a captain.”

Tiwari objected to Ten Dushkhat’s open comments about not only Rohit, but also Nitish Kumar Reddy. According to him, open criticism of the players from the team management breaks their morale. The former Indian cricketer feels that such comments about the captain who won the Champions Trophy are completely inappropriate.
