An Indian woman and her three relatives were shot dead due to a domestic dispute in the US state of Georgia. Three children hid in the cupboard to escape the violence. The attacker was none other than the woman’s husband. This information has been given by the officials. The incident occurred early Friday morning in a house in Lawrenceville city, which is near Atlanta. The Indian Consulate in Atlanta confirmed that an Indian national was among the victims and said the suspected attacker had been arrested. Expressing condolences, the Indian Consulate said that it is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved family.

Local media has identified the accused as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar, a resident of Atlanta. According to Gwinnett County Police, the victims include Vijay Kumar’s wife Meenu Dogra (43), Gaurav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37) and Harish Chander (38).

Children entered the cupboard to save their lives

Police said they received a 911 call from a home on Brook Ivy Court at around 2:30 a.m. local time. Upon arriving at the scene, police found four adults dead inside the home with fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators said that three children were also present in the house at the time of the incident. The children hid in the cupboard to save themselves and one of them called the emergency services, due to which the police reached the spot within a few minutes.

The children were not injured and were later released into the care of a family member. A case has been registered against the accused under several serious sections, which include aggravated assault, felony murder, intentional murder and cruelty to children. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
