Jaundice is a medical condition in which the skin, eyes, inside the mouth and nose start turning yellow. Jaundice is caused by excessive increase in bilirubin in the blood which the liver is unable to remove. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment released from the breakdown of red blood cells. Its high level in the body results in liver dysfunction and excessive breakdown of blood cells.
Usually people are not able to recognize this disease until the skin or eyes start appearing yellow. Whereas with the increase in bilirubin, many types of problems start appearing in the body, which are also considered to be the initial signs of jaundice. Here we are telling you about some such symptoms, by which you can avoid reaching a life-threatening situation.
Early symptoms of jaundice
Nausea or vomiting- Due to increase in bilirubin in the body, you may feel nausea or vomiting. Actually, in this condition, digestion does not work properly, due to which bile rises up.
loss of appetite- When bilirubin increases and the liver is unable to process it completely, the accumulation of bile and toxins causes problems in digestion. In such situations, one often feels less hungry.
Tiredness- If you have suddenly started feeling very tired, it may be due to high bilirubin. Because in this condition the liver is not able to process toxins and metabolic waste from the body.
Pain in the right side of the stomach- When bilirubin increases, pain often appears in the upper right part of the stomach. But these symptoms are the result of liver, gallbladder and bile duct related disorders, which are affected by high bilirubin.
Fever- If liver infection has started due to jaundice, then the patient may get fever. It usually starts with chills, and doesn’t last long.
Sometimes joint pain- Viral-like symptoms are often seen in jaundice caused by inflammation in the liver. This includes everything from fever to body and joint pain.
dark urine- Coffee or brown urine may appear when bilirubin increases. This happens due to the liver not functioning properly and blockage in the bile duct.
