ICC T20 World Cup 2026: West Indies and South Africa cricketers coming to play the T20 World Cup were stuck in India due to tensions in West Asia. Finally all the cricketers left India.
After the end of the 2026 T20 World Cup, all West Indies and South Africa members finally left India and returned to their respective countries. The airspace crisis created by the US-Israel-Iran conflict in West Asia made their return home long and complicated. As a result, even after the end of the World Cup, they were stuck in India for a few days.
Nine West Indies players returned home earlier in the week, the International Cricket Council said. Then on Thursday, the remaining 16 were sent on a commercial flight. At the same time, a 29-member team from South Africa has also left India and is expected to reach home soon.
The ICC said in a statement that it was possible to send the remaining members of the South Africa and West Indies teams to their respective countries within the last 24 hours. The organization said that despite the difficult global travel situation, their main goal was to get players and staff back home safely. That is why the plan has to be changed repeatedly according to the situation.
During this time, the ICC’s Operations and Logistics Department worked in coordination with various governments, airlines, charter flight companies, airport authorities and cricket boards of member countries. They had to make regular adjustments to deal with the problems that travel caused due to the changing international situation.
But there was some controversy about this whole thing. Some West Indies players complained that they were not given any clear information about their return home even after the World Cup ended. Later, the South African players also questioned why the England team was able to leave the country on a chartered flight within a day. Although the ICC denied allegations of bias, the difference arose due to limited airspace and departures from different cities.
