The Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided not to tour India to participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup. This decision has started a lot of discussion and criticism within the country’s cricket. It has been alleged that the opinion of the national team players was not properly taken before taking this important decision. Rather, the players were only informed of the decision, and consent was not sought.
According to a Cricbuzz report, most of the players were disappointed in the meeting with Asif Nazrul, the sports advisor to the government. They thought that they would get a chance to change the decision by presenting their opinion in this meeting. But in reality, even though the players were heard in the meeting, they did not have any impact. Many of the players felt that the decision was already taken.
The report also claimed that Bangladesh T20 team captain Liton Das and Test team captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto went to India and gave their opinion in favor of playing in the World Cup. However, BCB rejected their proposal citing security reasons. On behalf of the board, citing some previous incidents, it is said that there is concern about the safety of Bangladeshi players in India.
The players were also informed that there was no direct communication with the Indian Cricket Board BCCI. As a result, BCB also questioned how realistic it is to send a team in such a situation. Although BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul tried to reassure the players, many cricketers felt the final decision was taken before the meeting.
Meanwhile, many people are linking this decision with the tension in the current diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh. BCB’s position is a direct reflection of the government’s decision, the stakeholders are also giving an opinion. The BCB has already accused the ICC of ‘unfair behaviour’. On the other hand, the International Cricket Council is said to be preparing to exclude Bangladesh and include Scotland.
