Bakuchi Herb Benefits: Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh is considered a treasure of medicinal herbs. Many rare plants found here have special importance in Ayurveda. One of these is Bakuchi, which is also called Bavachi or Bakuchi. Since ancient times, this medicinal plant has been used in Ayurveda in the treatment of many serious diseases ranging from skin diseases. Even today, Bakuchi is considered very effective in Ayurvedic medicine.
Why is Bakuchi special in skin diseases?
Ayurveda Medical Officer Dr. Vipin Singh says that Bakuchi is especially known for skin related problems. Psoralen, an active ingredient found in its seeds, increases the production of melanin in the skin when exposed to sunlight. For this reason, its use is considered very beneficial in problems like vitiligo, psoriasis, eczema, ringworm and itching. Applying Bakuchi oil on the skin reduces infection and brings natural glow to the skin.
Importance of Bakuchi in Ayurveda
According to Dr. Vipin Singh, Bakuchi is considered a phlegm-vata sedative in Ayurveda. It is described as a herb that improves digestion, purifies blood and increases Vrishya i.e. fertility. Apart from this, Bakuchi is also used in liver disorders, piles, stomach worms, wounds and urinary problems.
Also beneficial for bones and joints
Bakuchi is also considered helpful in strengthening bones. The anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory elements present in it help in reducing swelling and pain in joints. This is the reason why Ayurvedic doctors recommend its use even in problems like arthritis and osteoporosis.
Effect on cancer and diabetes also?
Dr. Singh says that recent research has indicated that some elements present in Bakuchi may be helpful in preventing the growth of cancer cells. Besides, it can also be helpful in controlling blood sugar level, due to which the possibilities of its use for diabetic patients have increased.
Do not use without advice
However, Dr. Vipin Singh also warns that despite being a natural medicine, Bakuchi can cause harm if used incorrectly or in excessive amounts. Especially when applied on the skin, it can cause problems like photosensitivity i.e. sunburn, redness or blisters. Therefore, it should always be used only on the advice of an experienced Ayurvedacharya or doctor.
