He worked with complete planning to make ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, the sequel of his blockbuster film ‘Avatar’. The filmmaker said that the 2009 film ‘Avatar’, which was a blockbuster at the box office, is based on a fictional moon, which is inhabited by a native tribe named Navi.
He said, ‘The response from people of all cultures and the world is that we want more of this. This is what people said later. I didn’t want to leave, I wanted to stay there. ‘As an artist, I have already made a place in the hearts and minds of people around the world,’ James Cameron told PTI in a virtual group interview.
The filmmaker said that while making the sequel, he had to do a lot of introspection. He further says, ‘I thought about it for a few years before deciding to move forward. This was not a sudden decision. I had to question myself as a filmmaker, as an artist. Is this something I want to do and dedicate my life to? Because that’s exactly what you do when you make a movie like this. This is 100 percent.
Citing the example of Steven Spielberg’s classic ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’, Cameron said that as a storyteller one needs a better reason to return to a franchise and it can’t be money.
