Khargon. Semal tree, which is easily found in Nimar including Khargone of Madhya Pradesh, is considered very special in Ayurveda. Generally people know it only because of its big flowers and cotton-like fruits, but its thorns, bark, seeds and roots are also used in many diseases. According to Ayurveda experts, proper use of Semal can provide relief from skin diseases, stomach problems, burning sensation and women related problems. Khargone’s Ayurveda expert (MD) Dr. Santosh Maurya tells Local 18 that Semal is also called Shalmali. Its scientific name is Bombax Ceiba. In Ayurveda it is considered a mine of medicinal properties. Its flowers, fruits, bark, seeds, roots, wood and even thorns are used as medicine. If it is used properly, it helps in providing relief from many diseases of the body.

Making powder of its bark and applying it as a paste provides relief from swelling, irritation and pain. It is considered useful especially for people who have frequent skin irritation or itching problems.
Thorns will enhance your face

A paste is made by mixing the thorns of semolina in milk and rubbing it on a stone. Applying this paste on the face provides relief from pimples, blemishes and freckles. This clears the skin and brings natural glow to the face. Many skin problems can be reduced if used regularly and properly.
Flower pudding is best during menstruation
Dr. Maurya further explains that Semal flowers are also full of medicinal properties. Consuming pudding made from its flowers with ghee provides relief to women from problems occurring during menstruation. It is considered especially helpful in problems like excessive bleeding, weakness and pain. Even today many women in rural areas use this home remedy.
Health benefits of consuming tubers
He tells that apart from this, the fruit and root of Semal also have special importance in Ayurveda. Its fruit is found in the form of tuber, which is dried and made into powder. This powder is consumed to remove weakness of the body and increase strength. In Ayurveda, it is also used as a chemical medicine, which strengthens the body’s immunity and the person can remain healthy for a long time.
