Havana/Washington. The tension between America and Cuba has once again reached a dangerous point. The situation has become such that the situation in Cuba’s capital Havana is now being seen as a sign of war. The statement given in a closed-door meeting at the US Embassy is an indication that Washington has now fully embarked on the strategy of bringing Cuba to its knees.

Addressing staff at the US Embassy in Havana, US Chargé d’Affaires Mike Hammer said, “If you haven’t packed your bags yet, do so.” This statement is being considered the most serious warning since the Cuban crisis. Hammer said in clear words that now the ‘blockade’ that Cuba has been talking about will not be a paper but a real blockade. He said, “Now nothing will come in. Oil has stopped coming in.”

US attack in Venezuela, 32 Cuban officers killed
Tension flared up further when the US arrested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a military action in Caracas a few weeks ago. In this operation, 32 Cuban military and intelligence officers deployed to protect Maduro were killed. This is considered to be the deadliest confrontation between America and Cuba after the Cold War. This action, along with removing Cuba’s closest ally from power, also cut off its lifeline – oil supplies.

Oil shut down, Cuba sinking into darkness
According to energy experts, Cuba met more than a third of its total oil needs from Venezuela. After the American action, this supply has almost come to a standstill. The result is that there is a blackout across the country, there are long queues at petrol pumps and the industry is on the verge of collapse. According to CNN, energy analyst Jorge Pinon warned, “If the oil valve is closed completely, Cuba’s economic collapse is certain. Without oil, there is no economy. A storm is coming.”

Preparation for naval blockade? Fresh memories of 1962
According to POLITICO report, the White House is considering a naval blockade against Cuba. Exactly the same as was imposed during the missile crisis of 1962, which brought the world to the brink of the Third World War. Cuba’s top diplomat Carlos Fernandez called it a “brutal attack on a peace-loving country” and said Cuba poses no threat to the United States.

Trump’s direct ultimatum: ‘Deal or suffer’
Donald Trump has clearly said that if Cuba wants to avoid being completely cut off, it will have to make a ‘deal’ with America. There are also indications that it may include conditions such as the return of assets confiscated after the 1959 revolution, which the Cuban government appears unwilling to accept. Cuba has made it clear that no talks are going on with America.
