Mumbai: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has sent an official e-mail to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asking them to reconsider their decision to boycott the India vs Pakistan match on February 15 in Colombo. Sri Lankan cricket officials said that if the match is not held, they will suffer huge financial losses and the image of the tournament will be negatively affected. Because they are jointly organizing this show piece event with India.
All logistics, security, ticketing and hospitality arrangements have already been completed and tickets for the India-Pakistan match have sold out quickly, the mail said. So if this match is cancelled, there will be a huge loss in hotel bookings, tourism and other income.
A source said that the PCB may now again consult the Pakistan government on the matter. Because Pakistan and Sri Lanka have had friendly relations for a long time. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was directly contacted by SLC President Shammi Silva. He reminded, this time Sri Lanka wants help from Pakistan, because Sri Lanka board will lose extra revenue if there is no India-Pak match.
Sources also said that Naqvi will present the mail to the government and then a decision will be taken on the matter by Monday. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has assured Sri Lanka Cricket Board President Shammi Silva that he will consult the government again and take a decision later, sources said.
The source noted that even last November, when some Sri Lankan players wanted to return from Pakistan due to security concerns, the Sri Lankan government stood firmly by Pakistan. “Not only the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, but also the government at that time ordered the players to complete the ‘white ball’ tour.”
