New Delhi : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is believed to have virtually taken a U-turn from its February 15 decision to boycott India matches. The ‘Men in Green’ are all set to take on India in Colombo this Sunday after Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif consulted with all stakeholders, including PCB officials. The India vs Pakistan match will be played at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as per the schedule.

According to sources, Pakistan has agreed to play against India at the special request of Sri Lankan President Shammi Silva, UAE Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It is known that the Prime Minister of Pakistan is currently meeting with PCB President Mohsin Naqvi on this issue.

Top sources in Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the country’s cricket board had received assurances from the ICC regarding their demands. Earlier, PCB president Mohsin Naqvi had raised several demands, including the resumption of India-Pakistan bilateral cricket and a tri-series involving Bangladesh.

The demands were intended to compensate the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for some of the financial losses they suffered following their sudden exit from the world event.

Although India-Pakistan bilateral cricket does not fall within the purview of the ICC, the demand for a tri-series has been rejected outright. India has not played a tri-nation tournament for over a decade. However, the ICC may consider handing over the responsibility of organizing the upcoming U-19 World Cup to Bangladesh.

Earlier, Mohsin Naqvi said that the final decision on whether to boycott the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match to be held in Colombo on February 15 will be clear within the next 24 hours. Because the talks with the ICC are still going on.

He said that Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Aminul Islam Bulbul is also involved in this discussion and PCB is waiting for response on several issues raised by them. Naqvi said, “We have discussed with them. It is not appropriate for me to comment at this time. We will take a decision only after getting their reply. We will go back to the Prime Minister (Shahbaz Sharif) for advice after getting the ICC’s reply.” “There will be an announcement tomorrow or the day after,” he added.
