Gonda: In Ayurveda, to keep the body healthy, emphasis is laid not only on medicine but also on the internal cleanliness of the body. This process is called Panchakarma. This is a special Ayurvedic treatment method, the purpose of which is to remove dirt and toxins accumulated in the body.

According to Ayurveda, there are three doshas in the body: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. When their balance gets disturbed, diseases arise. Panchakarma helps in balancing these doshas. According to Abhishek Mishra, there are three doshas in the body: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. When their balance gets disturbed, diseases arise. Panchakarma helps in balancing these doshas.

What are the five steps of Panchakarma?

While talking to Local 18, Vaidya Abhishek Kumar Mishra explains that Panchakarma involves five main processes:
Vamana (purification through vomiting)
Virechana (purification through diarrhea)
Basti (treatment through enema)
Nasya (giving medicine through the nose)
Raktamokshana (purification of blood)

Abhishek Mishra explains that these procedures are done on the advice of an Ayurvedic doctor after looking at the patient’s disease and body condition.

How is this process done?

Abhishek Mishra explains that Panchakarma is not started directly. First the body is prepared. In this, oil massage (Abhyanga), steam (Swedana) and light food are given. When the body becomes loose and ready from inside, then the main process is done. The complete treatment can last from a few days to 15 to 20 days.

Which people benefit?

Abhishek Mishra explains that Panchakarma is said to be beneficial in problems like joint pain, skin diseases, stomach problems, migraine, allergies, stress and obesity. However, this is not necessary for every person. Pregnant women, elderly people or people suffering from serious diseases should not undergo this treatment without doctor’s advice.

Abhishek Mishra says that Panchakarma should always be done under the supervision of a trained and experienced Ayurvedic doctor. Panchakarma done correctly can make the body feel light, energetic and healthy.
