The Maharashtra government has announced three days of state mourning from January 28 to January 30 following the death of Ajit Pawar. During this time, national flags will be flown at half-mast in all government buildings and there will be no official entertainment programs. Besides, all government offices across the state have been ordered to remain closed on Wednesday.
Born on July 22, 1959, Ajit Pawar entered politics under the inspiration of his uncle Sharad Pawar. In 1982, he was elected to the board of directors of a sugar mill. Elected to Lok Sabha from Baramati in 1991, but later vacated the seat for Kaka. After that he worked as MLA of Baramati for a long time.
Ajit Pawar was known for hard work, punctuality and outspokenness. He served as Deputy Chief Minister in several governments led by Congress, Shiv Sena and BJP. He was better known as ‘Dada’ to common people. His death left an irreparable void in Maharashtra politics.
