Former India legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that young opener Abhishek Sharma is under heavy expectations in this T20 World Cup. He said, Abhishek is very talented but he is getting out quickly while playing big shots in the beginning. So it would be better for him to play patiently rather than playing risky ‘across the line’ shots at the beginning of the innings.

Abhishek has played three matches so far in this tournament but could not score a run. He got out quickly against USA, Pakistan and Netherlands. According to Gavaskar, opening the account with short runs rather than trying to hit boundaries from the first ball will reduce the pressure and allow opportunities to play big shots later.

Shivam Dubey and Varun Chakraborty played a big role in India’s victory in the last match. Dubey scored 66 off 31 balls to turn the match around, while Chakraborty kept the opposition under pressure by picking up crucial wickets at low runs. Gavaskar said that Dub’s shot variety is so much that it is very difficult for the bowlers to bowl him.

Praising Chakraborty, he said that he is one of the hope of the team in the T20 format. If Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya bring quick wickets with the new ball, then Chakraborty’s spin will be more effective. Gavaskar feels that his four overs will play a very important role in India’s bowling plan.

He also gave his opinion on the team selection before the Super Eight match against South Africa. According to him, Akshar Patel can return to the team and replace Arshdeep Singh if possible. There is also doubt as to whether Washington will be in Sunder’s side, although his batting at number eight could give the team an added advantage.
