Sanju Samson’s brilliant innings against West Indies sent Indian fans into a frenzy. His unbeaten innings of 97 runs in the crucial match will be remembered for a long time as India reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 on the strength of this innings. But despite the joy of success, the Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman had to face caste discrimination on social media.

After India’s big win, a post on social media sparked controversy. “Dark forces can defeat dark forces! Well played, Sanju Samson,” wrote a user on the X (Twitter) platform with his picture. Many Indian fans were outraged by this comment.

The Kerala Congress objected to the comments and demanded Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnab to take strict action against the alleged account. The party said, “Such despicable racist comments have no place in India. Urgent action should be taken against this heinous comment directed at the pride of Kerala, Sanju Samson.”

Samson was again dropped as an opener after the big loss in the first match of the Super Eight against South Africa, in order to solve the problems in the top order. On Sunday, he scored a 50-ball 97, which included 12 fours and 4 sixes, and chased down a tough target of 196 to lead the team to victory.

After the match, Samson said he believed in himself and kept his phone and social media off to recover. “I believed in myself, turned off my phone and social media and listened to myself. I am very happy to have done it in such a special match,” he said. He also said that if you want to chase a big target in a pressure match, you need to understand the situation and focus on building your own innings by taking risks.
