The big hero of this success is opener Pathum Nisanka, who made a brilliant century against Australia to lead the team to victory.
Nissanka is now known as Sri Lanka’s reliable run machine. He is the second Sri Lankan cricketer to score a century in the T20 World Cup, a feat only held by Mahela Jayawardene. Not only this format, he has created history in ODI cricket as well. He became the first batsman to score a double century for the country by scoring 210 runs against Afghanistan.
But behind this success there is a story of hard struggle. Nissanka’s father worked as a general laborer in a field in Galle and the family’s condition was very poor. Couldn’t afford to buy good cricket equipment as a kid. His mother used to sell flowers and incense outside the temple to support her son’s sports.
Since his debut in international cricket in 2021, Nisanka has been performing consistently. So far he has scored thousands of runs in Test, ODI and T20 formats. According to experts, due to talent and hard work, he has already made his mark in world cricket and can become one of Sri Lanka’s biggest stars in the future.
