Shubman Gill Rejected Concerns About Rohit Sharma’s Form: After the 1-2 ODI series loss to New Zealand, Indian captain Shubman Gill categorically dismissed all criticisms about Rohit Sharma’s form.
After the 1-2 ODI series loss to New Zealand, Indian skipper Shubman Gill categorically dismissed all criticism of Rohit Sharma’s form. According to Gill, Rohit is not playing badly, rather he is getting off to a good start and is unable to convert it into big innings, which is normal in cricket. He said, a batsman always wants to exploit the start, but it is not possible every time. Therefore, the Indian captain thinks that there is nothing to worry about Rohit’s form.
Rohit Sharma scored a total of 61 runs in three matches in this series. His average was 20.33 and highest score was 26. While the series wasn’t too good for Rohit in terms of statistics, he had scored runs consistently earlier. After returning to international cricket last September, he scored a century and a half-century against Australia and two fifties against South Africa. In comparison, this series was the first in which he could not play an innings of more than 50.
Rohit’s batting style also started to be discussed during the series. Rohit, who is usually known for his aggressive batting, seemed a bit cautious this time. According to many, he was not as aggressive as before. However, the assistant coach of the team, Ryan Ten, explained this matter in doubt. According to him, the impact of the tough wicket and Rohit’s lack of play before the match were the main factors.
Ten Dushkhat also said that Rohit is a ‘touch player’ even though he is very aggressive. His batting depends on good ball timing. If the wicket is not good, it becomes difficult to play in a normal rhythm. Also, not playing enough matches after retiring from Tests and T20s has also had some impact. But he insists, Rohit never plays for himself, always thinks of the team first.
