Just before the start of T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian team suffered a big shock. Young fast bowler Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a knee injury. Harshit dropped him from the squad a day before India’s first match against the USA in Mumbai. It was later revealed that Harshit Rana had to undergo surgery due to the injury and his dream of playing in the World Cup was over for now.
Harshit Rana himself gave an update on his physical condition on social media. Along with a picture of him lying in the hospital, he wrote, “The surgery was a success and now his only goal is to get well soon and get back on the field.” His message suggests that the injury was quite serious and will take time to fully recover.
Harshit sustained the injury during a warm-up match against South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium last week. He bowled just one over in the match and cost 16 runs. At that time, he felt a pain in his knee and left the field. At that time, it was feared that he might have a problem with playing in the World Cup.
After Harshit’s dismissal, the Indian team called up veteran pacer Mohammad Siraj at the last minute. Siraj was preparing to go to Germany as he did not get a chance in the T20 World Cup squad. But he got a sudden call and joined the team and proved his importance in the first match.
Siraj bowled brilliantly against USA at the Wankhede Stadium. He took 3 crucial wickets in 4 overs to defend 161 runs. India started their World Cup campaign by winning the match by 29 runs. Siraj said after the match that his fortunes changed in just 24 hours. India’s next match is against the Netherlands, after which the team will travel to Colombo for the big match against Pakistan.
