Washington: There is tension going on between America and Iran. Meanwhile, a special meeting has taken place in the White House. An important meeting took place at the White House on Wednesday between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The issue of Iran remained central in this. Trump clearly said that he wants to continue diplomatic talks with Iran, even though the Israeli government has been expressing doubts about it. This meeting, which lasted for about three hours, was held completely in a closed room and no joint press conference was held after this.
What did Donald Trump say?
However, both the leaders issued separate brief statements. Trump wrote on social media that the meeting was ‘very good’, but no final decision was taken. He said, ‘I stressed that talks should continue with Iran to see whether an agreement is possible or not. If a deal can be made then that would be the better option, if not, then we will have to see what happens next. He mentioned Operation Midnight Hammer, through which Iran’s nuclear sites were attacked last year.
Trump warned Iran
Trump also gave an indirect warning to Iran. He referred to the incident last year when America bombed Iranian nuclear sites. Trump said that last time Iran decided not to compromise and it had to suffer the consequences. He expressed hope that this time Iran would adopt a ‘more responsible attitude’. On the other hand, Netanyahu said in his statement that he clearly laid out Israel’s security needs in the meeting. A statement issued by his office said that the two leaders discussed Iran, Gaza and the regional situation and agreed to maintain mutual coordination.
Constantly increasing tension in the Middle East
The meeting has taken place at a time when tension is at its peak in the Middle East. America has increased its power in the region. Talks are also going on to send a new aircraft carrier soon. However, Trump has kept the path of talks open even amidst military pressure. The first round of talks between America and Iran took place recently in Oman and the second round is expected to take place soon. The US wants the potential agreement to include the issue of Iran’s nuclear program as well as its ballistic missile program and regional proxy groups. At the same time, Iran has made it clear that it is not ready to negotiate on the missile program and considers uranium enrichment as its right.
What is Israel’s concern?
US Vice President JD Vance also indicated that America’s goal at present is not to bring about regime change in Iran, but to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons. He said that if diplomacy does not work, other options are also open. There are fears in Israeli security circles that any limited nuclear deal will not be able to completely curb Iran’s military capability. According to reports, if there is no agreement between America and Iran, then America and Israel may also consider joint military action.
