Injuries Reported but No Fatalities
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) evaluated at least two (and possibly three) people at the scene who were struck by the truck. Remarkably, all declined further treatment or transport to a hospital, with no major or life-threatening injuries reported. No ambulances were called for transport, and the overall harm appeared limited despite the terrifying nature of the event. Authorities issued a dispersal order as tensions simmered, and the crowd gradually thinned out.
Federal Investigation Underway as Motive Remains Unclear
The investigation is ongoing, with the LAPD’s Major Crimes unit leading, assisted by the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and the FBI. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli noted on X that federal authorities are on scene to determine the driver’s motive. Early speculation has ranged from intentional political provocation to a possible accident or road rage, but no official details on the driver’s identity or background have been released. Charges could include attempted assault with a deadly weapon, given the use of the vehicle.

Why Westwood and “Tehrangeles” Matter
The Westwood area holds special significance in this context. It’s home to one of the largest Iranian communities outside Iran, often called “Tehrangeles.” Many residents are exiles or descendants of those who fled after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The rally drew a diverse mix of monarchists, secular democrats, and other opposition voices united against the current regime’s crackdowns. Protesters carried massive Iranian flags stretching nearly a block and chanted slogans demanding freedom and an end to the theocracy.
