An 18-year-old youth has been arrested near the US Parliament building, known as the US Capitol, who was running towards the US Capitol with a loaded shotgun. In time, Capitol Police officers surrounded him and arrested him.
The attacker had come here with full preparation. He was wearing a tactical jacket and gloves. The police ordered him to put down his weapon, upon which he placed the shotgun on the ground and lay down himself. After this the officers took him into custody on the West Front of the Capitol. Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan acknowledged that no one knows what could have happened if officers were not present.
The attacker came fully prepared
The chief of the Capitol Police also said that recently a mock drill to deal with an active attacker was also conducted at the same place. He informed that the attacker had complete preparation. At the time of arrest the young man also had extra bullets. Police searched his white Mercedes SUV, which was parked near the building. A Kevlar helmet and gas mask were also recovered from the vehicle. According to the police, the accused is not a resident of Washington DC and was not already in the records of law enforcement agencies.
