India Tariff News: On India-US trade deal, US Senator Lindsey Graham has said that India has earned the reduction in tariff. He linked it to India’s reduction in Russian oil purchases. According to Graham, India’s steps will increase pressure on Russia and other countries will also follow India’s path.
America reduced tariffs on India.Washington: America has given relief to India in tariffs. The Trump government was imposing 50 percent tariff on India, now it has been reduced to 18 percent. This is a big relief. America’s MP Lindsey Graham was advocating imposition of 500 percent tariff against India. But now he is also seen praising India. Lindsey Graham has said that India has ‘earned’ the relief it has got in this deal. He linked this decision to the reduction in the purchase of Russian oil from India and also linked it to the pressure of Ukraine war.
Graham wrote on social media platform Praising Donald Trump’s strategy, he said that it is clear from India’s steps that this policy is working. According to Senator Graham, India’s behavior has proved that it deserves tariff cuts. He expressed hope that other big countries buying Russian oil will also take steps in India’s direction. He said that until the pressure on Russia becomes very high, President Vladimir Putin will not negotiate.

This statement has come at a time when Trump announced that a trade deal has been finalized between America and India. Under this deal, America has reduced the reciprocal tariff imposed on India from 25 percent to 18 percent. Trump said that this decision has been taken out of friendship and respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump said in his social media post that he spoke to Prime Minister Modi on phone, in which issues like trade and Russia-Ukraine war were discussed. He also claimed that India has agreed to stop purchasing Russian oil and buy more energy from America.
