Whenever there is talk of Vitamin C, the first name that comes to mind is orange, lemon or seasonal fruits. But do you know that there is a vegetable in which more Vitamin C is found than orange. This vegetable is bell pepper i.e. capsicum. Especially yellow and red capsicum are considered powerhouses of Vitamin C. If you want to strengthen your immunity and bring natural glow to your hair and face, then it can be beneficial to include bell pepper in your diet from today itself.
According to the report of Chicago Health, 100 grams of orange contains about 50 mg of Vitamin C, while 100 grams of yellow capsicum contains about 170 to 180 mg of Vitamin C. At the same time, 120 to 140 mg of Vitamin C is also present in red capsicum. That is, it can be clearly said that bell pepper contains many times more Vitamin C than orange. This is the reason why it is kept in the category of superfood.
Vitamin C plays an important role in increasing the body’s immunity. It helps in protecting the body from infections and gives strength to fight common diseases like cold and cough. Apart from this, Vitamin C improves the absorption of iron, which reduces the problem of weakness and fatigue. The anti-oxidants present in bell pepper also protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.
Talking about face and skin, Vitamin C helps in making collagen. Collagen is essential to keep the skin tight and young. Eating bell pepper regularly brings natural glow to the skin, reduces blemishes and also reduces the problem of premature wrinkles. Not only this, Vitamin C strengthens the hair roots, which reduces hair fall and makes the hair look more thick and shiny.
Bell pepper is rich not only in Vitamin C but also in fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6 and folate. Fiber keeps digestion healthy and helps in weight control. Vitamin A is considered beneficial for eye health and skin. Due to its low calories, it can be easily included in weight loss diet. It is also quite easy to include bell pepper in the diet. You can eat it raw in salad, cook it as a vegetable or use it in soups and stir fry. Keep in mind that cooking it for a long time can reduce the amount of Vitamin C. Therefore, cooking it lightly or consuming it raw is more beneficial.
