Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026 after suffering a hamstring injury in the first match against Ireland in Colombo on Sunday. Hasaranga completed his four-over spell in this match against Ireland, taking 3 wickets for just 25 runs. Due to his brilliant bowling, Ireland failed to chase down the tough target of 164 runs.

An MRI scan on Monday revealed a serious injury to Hasaranga’s left hamstring. An expert examined the report and decided to keep him out of the tournament. As a result, he will not be able to play in the remaining matches of this tournament.

Leg-spin all-rounder Dusan Hemantha is likely to be included in the squad in place of Hasaranga. Sri Lanka’s second group match will be played against Oman at Pallekele on February 12. Sri Lanka will then face Australia at Pallekele on February 16 and the final group match against Zimbabwe at RPS (R. Premadasa Stadium) in Colombo on February 19.

Dusan Hemantha may now be included in the Sri Lanka squad instead of Wanindu Hasaranga. On the strength of his brilliant performance, the clever spinner has overtaken all-rounder Shahid Afridi in the list of highest wicket takers in T20 World Cup.
