One of those teams is Italy, who qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time after defeating Scotland in the European qualifiers. One of the cricketers who have played a major role in bringing Italy to this point is Wayne Madsen.
42-year-old Wynne Madsen is one of the oldest players to take part in the tournament. But not only age, his life story is also quite different. Actually before becoming a cricketer, Wayne Madson was a hockey player and played hockey at the national level for South Africa.
Wayne Madsen is one of those rare players who is going to achieve the unique feat of appearing in World Cups in two different sports. He has also represented South Africa in the Hockey World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.
Wayne Madsen made his international hockey debut for South Africa at the age of 22. He played a total of 39 matches for South Africa. He also represented South Africa at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Madson also played in the World Cup of Hockey in the same year. Later in 2015, he also served as the director of Belper Hockey Club. Along with Madson, his brother Lloyd also played hockey for South Africa.
Wayne Madsen made his international debut for Italy in September last year. He has played 7 T20 matches for Italy so far, scoring 205 runs at a strike rate of 132.25. He also has two half-centuries to his name. But Madson has a long experience in domestic cricket in Italy.
