Urinary Tract Infection in Women: Women are more prone to urinary tract infection, whereas the risk is less in men. Women’s physical structure, hormonal changes and hygiene habits are the main reasons for this. Due to the shorter urethra of women, bacteria easily cause infection. However, this can be prevented.

Due to many reasons, the risk of UTI is higher in women than in men.
Why UTI Risk Is Higher in Women: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common problem, which affects a large number of people. Women often become victims of this infection. According to health experts, this is a urinary tract infection, due to which symptoms like frequent urination, burning sensation during urination, pain in the lower abdomen and sometimes fever are seen. Many women have to face UTI again and again. The question is why is the risk of this more in women than in men? Let us know about this from a well-known urologist.
Dr. Amarendra Pathak, Vice Chairman of Urology Department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi told News18. Women have a shorter urethra than men, so it takes less time for bacteria to reach the bladder. The location of anus and urethra is also very close to each other in women, due to which the risk of infection increases. This is why bacteria can easily enter the urinary tract and cause infection. Hormonal changes also increase the risk of UTI. During pregnancy, periods and menopause, hormone levels in the body change, which can affect the protection of the urinary tract. This increases the risk of urinary infection.
Dr. Pathak said that habits like not drinking enough water, holding urine for a long time, using dirty toilet, cleaning incorrectly or wearing very tight and synthetic clothes also increase the risk of UTI. Not taking care of cleanliness after having sex is also considered a risk factor of UTI. Frequent UTIs may also be associated with immune system weakness, diabetes, or use of certain contraceptive methods. Women who have previously had UTI have a higher risk of re-infection. Therefore the symptoms should not be ignored.
Urologist told that UTI can be prevented. For this, all people should drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily and should not stop urination. To avoid UTI, one should avoid using public toilets and also keep one’s toilet clean. Wearing comfortable cotton clothes is also beneficial. Urinating and maintaining cleanliness after having sex also reduces the risk of infection. It is possible to prevent UTI by being careful. If you become a victim of UTI, consult a doctor and get treatment. It is treated with antibiotics.
