Medinipur, Ranjan Chand : The talent that can emerge even from the remotest villages of Jangalmahal, has been proved time and again in various sports competitions. In continuation of that, a special Yogasana competition was organized in Medinipur city with contestants from only four districts of Jangalmahal – East Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram and Purulia. West Medinipur Yogasana Sports Association has taken the initiative.
Around 265 contestants participated in this competition held at Vidyasagar Hall in Medinipur. From small children to adults also show off their skills. The main aim of the organizers was to bring out the talented players from the countryside and give them a proper platform. Several children from remote villages have showcased their skills at the state and international levels as well.
Today many talents are lost due to lack of proper training and opportunities. That is why this initiative based on Jangalmahal is of special importance. Notably, Kaya Das of West Midnapore has already achieved success at the district, state and international levels. She recently participated in the Khelo India Yogasana competition twice and won medals both times. The competition is not only a talent scouting platform, but also an important step in attracting the mobile-dependent generation to the sport.
According to the organizers, many talented children from the remote rural areas of Jangalmahal have made their name in various fields today. From Pingla to gymnastics, talented girls like Prani have participated in the Olympics. Hence this novel initiative to find rural talent.
