Bangladesh fast bowler Rubel Hossain said goodbye to international cricket. He ended his international cricket career of a decade and a half. Bangladesh’s veteran fast bowler Rubel Hossain officially bid farewell to international cricket on Wednesday.
Rubel gave an emotional message on his Facebook page on Wednesday. There he announced that he will not be seen in international cricket again. He announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 36. However, Rubel Hossain said that despite retiring from international cricket for the country, he will continue to play domestic cricket.
Rubel wrote on social media, ‘I am pacer Rubel Hossain. I have played 27 Tests, 104 ODIs and 28 T20I matches in Bangladesh jersey. National team is my passion. But at one point I had to retire from international cricket. With that in mind, I said goodbye to international cricket.’
In September 2022, Rubel decided to retire from Test cricket. In 2009, Rubel was one of the architects of Bangladesh’s victory against the West Indies by taking 3 wickets on his debut in Test cricket. He played the last Test match of his career against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2020. He has 36 wickets in 27 Tests in total. Of which 5 for 166 against New Zealand is his career best.

Apart from Test cricket, Rubel was one of Bangladesh’s most trusted players in ODI and T20 formats. Rubel has played 104 ODI and 28 international T20 matches for the country. His devastating spell against England in the 2015 ODI World Cup is still remembered today. Bangladesh reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup after defeating England.
Besides, he gave many important career moments including a hat-trick against New Zealand. Especially at the end of the match (death over) with controlled bowling and reverse swing, this speed star has brought many breathtaking victories to Bangladesh.
