Mumbai: The current IPL season (IPL 2026) has been like a nightmare for Mumbai Indians. A big defeat in their last match in this tournament but could force Mumbai Indians to finish bottom of the league table. It goes without saying that injuries to star players throughout the season have compounded Paltan’s woes. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s form has surprised the most in this season.
On the other hand, the current world’s best fast bowler has taken just four wickets in the entire IPL season in 13 matches, which is unusual to say the least. This Bumrai took the most wickets for India in the World Cup a few days ago. Everyone is surprised by his sudden change of form. In this regard, Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene (Mahela Jayawardene) blames Bumrah’s injury in the World Cup.
In the press conference before the match against Rajasthan Royals, Mahela said, ‘It has been due to several issues. He had a minor injury in the World Cup, with which he played the World Cup and joined this team. So we gave him enough rest. But if you have to fight with such a situation, that edge is reduced a little.’
Jayawardene said efforts were made to manage Bumrah’s workload in practice and plans were made in such a way that Bumrah was not under too much pressure while bowling in matches. However, as the team’s star fast bowler, Boomer was never released from that pressure. However, Jayawardene is hopeful that Bumrah will return to his best form soon. IPL Bumrah has also been rested for the recently announced Afghanistan series to regain full fitness after the end.

However, while Bumrah was rested, Rohit Sharma was called up to India’s ODI team for the series. However, as soon as the team was announced, there were questions about Rohit’s fitness. Team India selectors announced whether Rohit is fit or not, he will be played against Afghanistan.
Jayawardene said that Rohit is being gradually brought into the team by managing his workload after the muscle injury, although the decision to play him as an impact sub was taken to maintain the balance of the team even before his injury. “As far as I can remember we used him as an (impact sub) for a few matches before he got injured. This decision was taken keeping in mind the balance of the team.’ Jayawardene said.
